Professional Biography
There is nothing better than knowing your existing clients value what you do
How do you describe what you do?
My role is to understand clients and their financial needs and to provide solutions to help them achieve their goals.
What's next for you professionally?
Having spent over three decades as an adviser, I truly believe the balance of experience and still having the excitement to engage new clients ensures my fulfillment in my role as a Financial Planner.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
The best piece of advice I have been given is to put any worries on hold. Far too many times in this industry has there been turmoil (market collapses), and detrimental tax changes, all which have recovered or introduced more opportunity.
What's an experience with a client that's stuck with you?
Around 20 years ago, I boosted a client's wealth by £500k using legislation around terminal illness. But within a few years, I lost two wonderful clients. The enhancement to their position is something that I know they always cherished.
How did you start off in your career?
Originally in a high street bank and could the see the growth towards banks providing financial planning and the recruitment of advisers. But rather than be restricted to a limited product and investment range, I left to pursue greater opportunity.
What's your area of expertise?
Both personal financial planing and working with business owners whose finances often span across both spectrums. I also hold qualifications in mortgages, equity release and long-term care planning.
Where do you get your inspiration to embrace what's next?
Embracing change. The industry has always evolved over many years. When I started back in the early 90's, the industry had only started picking up salient information about the client's circumstances. How we have come on over the years!
What's your favourite thing about your role?
Without doubt, the clients. Working as a trusted adviser alongside clients and seeing their plans and objectives fulfilled is so rewarding. And then receiving referrals. There is nothing better than knowing your existing clients value what you do.
What's next for you personally?
Continuity is so important for clients. My next chapter sees me continuing to look alongside my clients and ensure the experience remains rewarding for them.
When you're not at work, what's your favourite thing to do?
A little bit of my history. I was a former English National Champion at bowls on two occasions, a British Isles finalise once, and a Surrey Clay Shooting champion for two years. I do have a competitive streak when I put my mind to it!
Why does my role as a wealth manager matter?
If I look back on many clients who show gratitude for the journey they have taken and the financial goals and objectives fulfilled, I take enormous pride in the work we do for everyone.
