Professional Biography
I've never stopped learning, 'use it, or lose it' I live by that every day
How do you describe what you do?
Whether I am acting for different generations of the family, or simply just one individual, my principal aim is to achieve trusted adviser status. The Evelyn Partners proposition, along with my personal ethics help meet this important objective
What's next for you professionally?
Despite both my Chartered qualification and my 25 years' experience as an adviser, I am the first to acknowledge you never stop learning. I am committed to maintaining and improving my adviser skill set and knowledge, benefiting both I and clients.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
When meeting with a Senior Medical practitioner in 2011, in very clear terms, the words use it or lose it were stated to me. I live by that every day.
What's an experience with a client that's stuck with you?
Everybody has a different tolerance to loss. When somebody says to you they can no longer sleep at night for fear of this, something has to change. It did, we lost revenue as a result, but the client got their sleep back (testimonial to prove it!).
How did you start off in your career?
Aged 17, I unashamedly started my career at the very bottom, a filing clerk at a local Pension company, NPI. But from the bottom, there was only one direction for me and I am very proud in the upward momentum I have maintained during my career.
What's your area of expertise?
My core expertise during my career is being a Pension specialist. Even today, I am one of the few licensed practitioners for certain types of Pension work. But very importantly, for tax efficient succession, estate planning sits alongside that.
What's your favourite thing about your role?
If you are doing the role well, you should be asked questions about money every day. But if you are doing the role really well, you will be asked about important life questions that have nothing to do with money.
Do you have a significant experience that your clients would want to hear about?
Trust is a two-way street and all my clients know about matters close to my heart so I need not repeat it here.
Where's your favourite place to meet with your clients?
A place that makes them relaxed and helps us all achieve a productive meeting. If that’s with the family dog(s) pouncing on me as I walk through their front door, then so be it. I know a good dry cleaner!!
Why does my role as a wealth manager matter?
Like my knowledge and experience as an adviser, I have clients whose wealth has grown 'with me'. Some of those relationships are now over 20 years old and maybe this question would be better answered by them!
What qualifications and memberships do you have?
Chartered / CII.
