Professional Biography
I'm passionate about helping more people to have the knowledge and confidence to save and invest to achieve their financial goals
How do you describe what you do?
I'm an externally facing advocate for the business. I lead the press team, provide strategic communications advice, engage with analysts and other influencers and am a prolific commentator on personal finance, investments and tax in the press.
What's next for you professionally?
I'm passionate about helping more people to have the knowledge and confidence to save and invest to achieve their financial goals. My ambition is therefore to share our expertise and insights in the media as widely as possible.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
Never invest in a business or asset you don't understand.
What's an experience with a client that's stuck with you?
Many years ago, a client passed away. When I met his wife, she was shocked to discover he had investments of over a million pounds. It brought home to me how important it is for couples to both be involved in understanding their financial situation.
How did you start off in your career?
After university, I started out as a Business Analyst at a strategic management consultancy firm. I then began my financial services career as Head of Research at Bestinvest, now part of Evelyn Partners, where I set up the advice team.
What's your area of expertise?
I'm an investment professional by background who has carved out a career as a communicator. That includes discussing markets, investments and personal finance topics in the press through to explaining business models and strategy to investors.
Where do you get your inspiration to embrace what's next?
I studied history at university, which is great for developing an enquiring mind and learning to analyse, see different perspectives and test assumptions. In a fast-changing world, you need to think beyond the here and now to spot opportunities.
What's your favourite thing about your role?
I love meeting people, and a great aspect of my role is that I get out and about a lot.
What's next for you personally?
Even though I've been with Evelyn Partners for a long time, it is a business that never stays still and is always evolving. I thrive working in a dynamic environment and being able to learn new ways of doing things with utilising AI being next up!
Where's your favourite place to meet with your clients?
Most of my 'clients' are journalists and so the favourite place to meet them is over a lunch in a decent restaurant!
When you're not at work, what's your favourite thing to do?
I live in the countryside, so enjoy long walks with my dog (especially if there is a nice old pub at the end!).
