Professional Biography
I plan to keep skiing till my old knees tell me otherwise
How do you describe what you do?
As part of a team of four, I manage over 400 discretionary account groups, ranging from general investment portfolios to pension funds, trusts and charities
What's next for you professionally?
Although I don't feel it, I would probably say I am in the latter stages of my career. As I enjoy my job and work well within my team, I do not see myself looking to make significant career progression in my remaining time with the organisation.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
Not long after I graduated, a relative suggested that I think of a career in stockbroking, as he had done himself. I took on his advice and it's the only job I have ever done since starting in the industry in 1987 and I wouldn't change a thing!
How did you start off in your career?
I started working in a stockbroking office in Glasgow in October 1987, a week before Black Monday which for those of us old enough to remember it, was a fairly interesting time.
When you're not at work, what's your favourite thing to do?
I enjoy winter sports as I ski, play curling and watch ice hockey. Skiing is without doubt my favourite pastime, as long as my ageing knees and hips will allow me to keep going! The summer is definitely for recovering from my winter activities.
