How do you describe what you do?
I provide holistic financial planning for high-net-worth individuals and families, building sustainable long-term relationships with my clients . I specialise in international wealth management, retirement and succession and estate planning.
What's next for you professionally?
Continuing to learn and develop are really important to me. Currently studying an advanced qualification supporting my international work, and developing my expertise in tax advantaged investment solutions including VCTs and EIS schemes.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
Always say yes to new opportunities! This has seen me meet some incredible people, complete a short-term secondment to Nairobi and live in the Channel Islands.
What's an experience with a client that's stuck with you?
Meeting a client at the start of their journey, planning to sell their business - supporting them through the sale, implementing their financial plan and seeing them achieve their goals over time. Joining my client on that journey was really special
How did you start off in your career?
I started as a management trainee at Yorkshire Bank in 1997. I realised that financial planning was where I saw myself and was successful in joining the Financial Planning team, being sponsored to take my professional qualifications 'on the job'.
What's your area of expertise?
I work across all areas of Financial Planning. My real areas of specialist expertise are in International Wealth Management, Retirement Planning and Estate and Succession planning.
Where do you get your inspiration to embrace what's next?
With a family motto of 'Keep Moving Forward' (borrowed from Walt Disney) , it's in my DNA to seek out new challenges and embrace the change that enables us to grow as people and as a business.
What's your favourite thing about your role?
People - first second and third on the list. I meet some amazing people and being able to actively contribute to them meeting their goals and achieving their aspirations is quite a privilege
What's next for you personally?
As with my work role, continuing to challenge myself and develop personally are really important to me. I have amazing children and a wonderful partner and looking forward to many years of seeking out new adventures and revisiting some old ones!
Where's your favourite place to meet with your clients?
I like to meet my clients in their home - It's great to see people in the natural habitat! This often leads to a warmer and more constructive meeting, than sitting in a corporate office setting.
When you're not at work, what's your favourite thing to do?
I really enjoy travelling and eating out. My partner and I are wannabe restaurant critics I think! We always have an opinion! I try to keep myself fit, a casual gym-goer and home work-outer, also enjoy anything to do with being on or near the ocean
Why does my role as a wealth manager matter?
Building genuine client relationships and guiding the financial journey is a powerful responsibility. Helping clarify goals and support plans to achieve them makes the role deeply impactful and rewarding.
What qualifications and memberships do you have?
I'm a Chartered Wealth Manager and Chartered Fellow of the CISI.
