Market movements over the course of June were dominated by the EU referendum and the subsequent leave result.

  • Given the relatively small size of the UK economy, the impact of the vote is unlikely to cause a global recession
  • However, the heightened uncertainty is expected to have a more substantial negative economic effect on the UK, as companies defer investment decisions and real incomes are squeezed
  • As a result, a rate cut by the Bank of England is increasingly probable.
