Leading UK private client investment and financial planning group Tilney Bestinvest is proud to announce its support for Winning Scotland Foundation’s ‘Champions in Schools’ programme in 2014/15. The programme places top Scottish athletes in the classroom to deliver a series of inspirational workshops.

Aimed at pupils of late primary and early secondary school age, athletes deliver three workshops to a selected group of 20-30 young people over the course of an academic year in schools across Scotland. Each visit covers a different theme and pupils are set a 'Champion’s Challenge' to work towards between each visit.

Athletes involved in the programme include judo champion and Team Scotland flag bearer at Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Euan Burton; Aileen Neilson, Paralympic medal winning wheelchair curler; Polar Explorer Craig Mathieson and international football goalkeeper Gemma Fay; British Lions rugby player Ross Ford and professional mountain bike racer Ruaridh Cunningham. In total, over 60 Champions in Schools athletes competed in this year’s Commonwealth Games, winning 20 medals including seven golds.

The athletes use their sporting achievements and experience to help pupils learn to overcome setbacks, work hard and strive for continual improvement. By using sport as a learning tool, the Foundation is aiming to enable young people to be well-prepared for their lives ahead of them.

Paul Frame, Managing Director and Head of Tilney Bestinvest’s Glasgow Office said: “2014 is a year of exciting sporting events in Scotland, not least Glasgow’s spectacular hosting of the Commonwealth Games. Events such as these demonstrate the opportunity for sport to inspire people both young and old. The work of the charity is key to motivating young people to succeed from an early age and we are proud to offer it our support.”

Tilney Bestinvest employs 46 staff in Scotland operating out of offices in Melville Street, Edinburgh and St Vincent Street, Glasgow. For further information on Tilney Bestinvest, please visit: www.tilneybestinvest.co.uk
