John Hodgson, joins Stephen Maddock OBE, CEO of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) to discuss the impact Brexit could have on the Orchestra and businesses once the UK leaves the EU.
In the first of a series of short films, created in partnership with the CBSO, Stephen Maddock discusses what Brexit could mean for the recruitment and retention of world class musicians, as many of the orchestra’s members hail from EU countries including the CBSO’s Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla who is from Lithuania.
he Orchestra is also accustomed to being mobile, moving effortlessly between EU member states without a single form needing to be completed. Likewise, orchestras can move all their instruments, at least one for each player, without impediment. What’s more, if a musician is ill, they can call upon another without delay or the need for an emergency visa. What will a restriction in travel arrangements and visa's across the EU mean for the the Orchestra?
